Born in Neuilly sur Seine (France), he began playing the piano at the age of 5. At the age of 18, he left Paris for Switzerland, where he combined his studies in electrical engineering at Zurich Polytechnic with his passion for the piano and musicology. After starting out as an actor in advertising and institutional films (1985), he worked for a classical music label launching video clips designed to „visualize“ musical works from the great repertoire. This was followed by commissioned films for various television channels, featuring portraits of composers and performers. In 1996, he began producing his own films that were distributed in cinemas an released the very first film about Argentinean Martha Argerich, that won the famous Prix Italia in 2002.
In 2003 Gachot felt in love with Brazilian music and turned his camera to this new world for him, the country of the Samba and Bossa Nova, where musicians opened generously their door to this passionate music filmmaker that grew up in another culture. A 16 years long adventure and the production of 2 Portrait of singers, about a Samba School and about Joao Gilberto, the father of the Bossa Nova.
Already in 1996, Gachot found in Cambodia another focus in a humanitarian work from a Swiss pediatrician and cellist Beat Richner that where building children hospitals. Gachot, like in other topic did follow this Cambodia story and realized five films about it.
After those back and forth travelling between South America and Cambodia, since 2019 Gachot, concentrate on the unites States of America producing a film about his secret love for the music of jazz pianist Erroll Garner.
